COERR Maesot Organized Handicrafts Activities for Local Wisdom Inheritance and Potential Income Generation

Current situation of pandemic had disrupted regular education in schools in the temporary shelters. Thus, children and youth used their leisure time to develop skills, knowledge and expertise in handicrafts for local wisdom inheritance and potential income generation.

COERR Maesot then promoted Crochet Handicraft to the youth to learn how to use yarn for knitting fabric to produce clothing and kids’ items for future career.

The crocheting class was arranged in Ban Mae La Temporary Shelter, Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province on November 13, 2021. There were 50 participants.

COERR Maesot also organized Cogon Grass weaving for roofing training, for youth and children in Umpiem Temporary Shelter to practice skills in repairing deteriorating house roof. In addition to build expertise, develop skills and inherit local wisdom value, the trainees were encouraged to use this skill to help repairing the poor neighbors’ bad house roof. This promoted effective process of thinking and paved the way for physical, mental, emotional, intellectual and social development of children and youth.

The Cogon Grass weaving for local wisdom inheritance training was organized on November 16, 2021. There were 27 young learners of 24 females and 3 males participating.
